Bring on the plastic fans - 3rd round draw

The 3rd Round of the Scottish Cup paired us with SPL team Livingston

Not a great draw for the Ton. Of all the SPL teams we could have gotten Livvy were probably the ones to avoid - little or no attraction in the tie - Their support has dwindled recently meaning that the usual cash boost from drawing an SPL side is unlikely to materialise.

The draw does pit a former hero of the cowshed Derek Lilley against us - Im sure Derek will be given a warm reception by the traveling fans.

Other major news in the draw is that Celtic & Rangers have been pitted against each other (cue scenes of mass hysteria from the press and MP's looking to get their name in the press.)

Full draw is

Montrose v Queen of the South
Kilmarnock v Motherwell
Raith Rovers v Alloa Athletic
St Mirren v Hamilton Accies
Celtic v Rangers
Clyde v Falkirk
Arbroath v Aberdeen
Dumbarton or Berwick Rangers v Brechin City
Gretna v Dundee United
Huntly or East Fife v Dunfermline Athletic
Ross County v Airdrie United
Hibernian v Dundee
Inverness CT v St Johnstone
Partick Thistle v Hearts
Livingston v Morton
Ayr United v Stranraer

Tie to be played on January 8th 2005

3 games from Hampden*

Today's daunting trip to the north of Scotland turned out to be a walk in park albeit a very cold and small park.
Allan Park
Allan Park, Cove.

Morton dispatched Highland league Cove Rangers with the minimum of fuss on what was an ideal day for football in the north of Scotland.
2 early goals settled any nerves and the Ton ran out 7-1 winners in the end through Millar (2), Jason (2), Spoonsy, Adam & the pick of the bunch - a 20 yard curler from Warren Hawke.

Throughly deserved Man of the Match went to Paul Walker who had the beating of the the Cove defence but unlike on previous occassions this season he made his possession count and had a hand in a number of the Ton goals.

A good performance from the Ton whose passing at times was a joy to watch - The scoreline could have easily been double figures but for good goalkeeping & overelaboration. Chris Millar could indeed have had a hat-trick had it not been for a shocking miss from 6 yds with the goal at his mercy. Chris then followed this up with a cracking drive from 25 yards that hit the top of the bar.

Only downside of the day was injury suffered by Stewart Greacen midway through the 1st half - it looks as though it may be a hamstring injury which would result in the big guy being out for 6 weeks. Spoonsy dropped back into the centre half role with Hawke coming on to good effect up front.

All in all a good days work for the Ton - !st time i've seen them scoring 7 goals in a single game.

Roll on the next round !!!!!

......and so it begin's

Ok im sitting here - its now just gone 01:30 and now I decide to post something on this thing - I seriously think staring at a monitor all day is wasting my brain.

So im gonna go to my bed - Im up again in 7 hours to go to the game - The bus leaves the POW at 10am - reckon it will be about a 3hour drive.

Tomorrow or sorry Today is Scottish Cup 2nd Round Day - We can forget about our faltering league form and worry about getting hammered by a team from the Highland league - oh the joy.

Anyway hopefully this will be the start of something beautiful (no not a Scottish Cup final appearance) and i'll pop by every now and again.
